A few weeks ago Els and El took a trip to Westgate, a beautiful town in Kent. This was a welcomed break from busy London life, but still buzzing with excitement and full of fun!
We ate at Albariño, a beautiful tapas in Broadstairs. Like most restaurants in Broadstairs, the restaurant was tiny and narrow yet perfectly comfortable. The food itself was beautiful, a real hidden gem!
We all went for the tapas of the day, which included:
Grilled bread & Spanish olives
Chickpea & fennel chips
Smoked haddock, horseradish aioli
Potato & onion tortilla
Local venison burger, spinach, sultanas & Marcona almonds
Rabbit cooked in oloroso, garlic, wild mushrooms, pancetta and rosemary
All these dishes were absolutely delicious, really fresh and simple.
Il Tricolore, Ramsgate
On arrival, Ramsgate did not seem the most welcoming of towns, and tottering around in our heels opposite the local run down kebab shop we almost headed home… However, our experience at Il Tricolore made us forget where we were. The food was top quality, fresh and full of fantastic flavours.
Pane all’aglio e mozzarella- Garlic bread and mozzarella
Calamari fritti- Deep fried fresh squid dusted with seasoned flour served with a mayonnaise dip
Saute di cozze- Fresh mussels in white wine parsley in light fresh cherry tomato sauce served with croutons
Linguine ai frutti di mare- Linguine pasta with mussels and clams in a white wine and fresh cherry tomato sauce
Penne al forno- Penne pasta cooked with chicken strips and pancetta in creamy red pesto sauce served oven baked topped with mozzarella
The food went down well with a bottle of house white wine.
The Chapel, Broadstairs
This has to be the quirkiest place we have ever been, where old books meet locally brewed cider. The idea of this micro pub is great, however the cider was not to our liking as it was warm and I don’t know if it was off but it tasted horrible. Definitely something a bit different!
Paolo’s Kitchen, Broadstairs
As a burger lover, this really is up there. We stumbled in quite late in the evening, and we were not disappointed. The menu isn’t overly complicated and relatively cheap and you can BYOB.
Battered tempura prawns
New York burger
Whilst waiting for our food, we were amused by a list of quotes on the wall, our favourite being: ‘Never eat more than you can lift’ – Miss Piggy. This was definitely relevant at the time…
